Welcome to the Eastbourne Explorer Scouts Website !

Explorer Scouts are young people aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

A Brief History of Nearly Everything.....

October 2002 - EASTBOURNE EXPLORER SCOUT UNIT IS BORN!

  • Nationwide the age ranges change within Scouting with Scouts going from 10.5 - 16 years to 10.5 - 14.5 and Ventures from 16 - 25 years become Network Scouts aged 18 - 25 to bring in a brand new section to cover the ages of 14 - 18. Eastbourne Explorer Scouts started with 15 members being invested at Hallowe'en Camp 2002. A nerve wracking time for a brand new section nationwide, but what follows proves that it works!

January 2008 - ELECTRA ESU

  • After a vote by the Explorer Scouts, January 2008 saw the unit change its name to 'Electra' and later on in the year reached full capacity of 35 young people.

May 2009 - SPIRO ESU

  • The opening of 'Spiro' unit, with 22 members being invested at their first camp in July 2009. In January 2010 the Explorers from each unit chose their new scarves to have separate identities.

January 2011 - KYROS ESU

  • Welcome to 'Kyros' Young Leader Unit, with all Explorers who are currently serving as YLs automatically becoming a member, also a new opening for those who just want to do the Young Leader side of things.

January 2012 - HELIOS ESU

  • Our latest edition to Eastbourne Explorers is 'Helios' Unit who started with eight members and are already growing strong with numbers in double figures within three months!

..... Bringing our grand total of Explorer Scouts in Eastbourne to over 80 young people! Spiro ESU (Fridays) is currently full however we are now taking new members in both Electra (Wednesdays) and Helios (Tuesdays) ESU's, along with the opportunity to become a Young Leader with Kyros. Just fill out the 'contact us' form for more information.
